What is the Millennium?
Most everyone has heard that Jesus is supposed to return at some unknown time to rule the earth. Upon his return to earth, Jesus' first order of business is to defeat the then current world-ruler, the Antichrist and his armies. After his victory at the Battle of Armageddon, he then can set up his government, the Kingdom of God. The first thousand years of its rule (Rev 20:4) is commonly referred to as the Millennium. While some Christians are aware of this term, very few have a concept of what the Millennium will be like.
Note that some have believed that the 1000 years is not really literal, but is merely figurative language for an unspecified long time. Nevertheless, Revelation 20 uses the phrase "the 1000 years" six times to refer to this period. Could it be trying to tell us something? Further, other verses repeat this same 1000 years and also point to the Millennium being a fulfillment of the seventh day Sabbath, a day ancient Israel was commanded to rest from their labors on. In other words, the Sabbath day is an foreshadow or anti-type of the coming “Sabbath millennium” following six millennia that the other six days of the week foreshadow or typify.
With that background explained, let's get an idea of the Millennium by looking at ten changes that Bible prophecy describes for this time.
#1. The New Form of Government: "Glorified Monarchy"
Ever since Adam left the Garden of Eden, man has been ruled by other men with very bad results.
The problem with men ruling is twofold: First, humanity's natural inclination is evil. We're all familiar with the horrors of despots and dictators of the past and present (like North Korea). Even good men are still corruptible with time. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, still turned away from God.
Second, even when a ruler is good and avoids corruption, there's still the problem that he is mortal. When he dies he will most likely be replaced by somebody wicked. The Book of Kings bears out this pattern. I heard Chuck Missler make the observation that "the people of God are always one generation away from apostasy" for this very reason. This sums up well the problem of the mortality of righteous rulers.
This, by the way, is why Jesus told us to pray, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven..." (Mt 6:10). The Kingdom of God is God's government. Currently it only rules in heaven. In the past it ruled on earth, too, but only for a short time when Adam and Eve were obedient to God in the Garden on Eden. Once they rebelled, they effectively rejected his rule and were cast out of the resulting utopia that God's Kingdom creates, to a dystopia that Satan's kingdom or rule (2Co 4:4) creates. (Although this decision seems tragic, it was an inevitable and necessary step for our development.)
When Jesus comes back to reestablish the Kingdom of God on earth, the pattern of apostasy described above will be broken forever. The righteous saints who were glorified in the rapture and first resurrection will come back from the marriage supper of the lamb in heaven (Rev 19:14-15) to become the rulers of the earth (Mt 5:5) in the Kingdom of God with Jesus:
Revelation 20:4 — Then I saw thrones, and people seated on them who were given authority to judge. I also saw the people, who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of God’s word, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and who had not accepted the mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with the Messiah for 1,000 years.
However, those rewarded saints will have glorified spirit bodies instead of the physical ones they had in their previous life. The lust of the flesh will be gone along with their mortality. This means they will not be corruptible nor will they ever die and be replaced by a wicked ruler. The benevolent rule of Jesus and his saints will be continuous. The resulting peace and prosperity will be unprecedented and ever increasing (Isaiah 9:7).
Thankfully, these future glorified saints who rule the world won't be like the vast majority of judgmental, hypocritical Christians you experience today, lacking faith (Lk 18:8), gentleness and the rest of the fruits of the spirit in general (Gal 5:22-23). Only the believers in history who have adopted the law of love (Gal 6:2=John 13:34) that Lord Jesus required (Lk 6:46=Mt 7:21) will be given eternal life. More on that here.
By the way, if you had always thought that the destiny of the righteous was to live up in heaven with Jesus, this may come as a surprise. It turns out that "the meek shall inherit the earth" (Ps 37:11; Mt 5:5) is indeed literal and not poetic. The glorified saints of God will rule with King Jesus on the earth, not in heaven (Rev 5:10).
#2. Evil Spirits Gone (Not Just Satan)
Stopping evil men from ruling the world is a crucial change for the Millennium, but it only addresses one source of the evil control of the world today. The Bible tells us we do not fight against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of evil (Eph 6:12).
Which spiritual forces? Satan, the fallen angel, is the main culprit as the leader of the dark spirits who is responsible for actively deceiving everyone in the world (Rev 12:9).
Satan does not accomplish this all by himself; he is not omnipresent or everywhere at once. He has two types of evil spirits working with him. First, the Bible reveals that Satan turned one third of the holy angels against God so that they left their “first estate” or position (Jude 1:6=Rev 12:3-4):
Revelation 12:3-4 — 3 There was a great fiery red dragon having seven heads and 10 horns, and on his heads were seven diadems. 4 His tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth.
Jude 1:6-7 — and He has kept, with eternal chains in darkness for the judgment of the great day, the angels who did not keep their own position but deserted their proper dwelling.
The second type of evil spirit helping Satan are the demons. Jesus and his disciples contended with them in the New Testament. These are different from the angels. The angels have the ability to manifest in human bodies on earth or appear as angels of light. The demons are less powerful and seek to take over humans, even animals if need be.
"Depart From Me, I Never Knew you!" - Jesus
Jesus predicted that he will tell many sincere believers to basically "get lost" instead of welcoming them into the Kingdom. So...who are they and what did they miss or do wrong? In this study, get those answers and the one requirement for salvation Jesus taught (that Christianity misses) so that you can make sure you don't hear these dreaded words yourself!
If Jesus' first order of business upon his return is dealing with the evil human government ruling the earth (#1 above) at the Battle of Armageddon (Rev 19:15-19), his second order of business is clearly to deal with these evil spirits:
Revelation 20:1-3 — Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the abyss and a great chain in his hand. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for 1,000 years. 3 He threw him into the abyss, closed it, and put a seal on it so that he would no longer deceive the nations until the 1,000 years were completed. After that, he must be released for a short time.
Plainly, the way the fallen angels like Satan are restrained from causing trouble in the Millennium is by being kept alive in prison (to be judged later - 1Co 6:3). The demons are dealt with differently; they are destroyed by being sent to the lake of fire, whether they have a physical body at the time or not (Rev 19:20).
With the current influence of the evil spirits gone, people will not be deceived or as tempted or incited to sin as they are today. (Not every evil thought or inclination you have came from your own mind). This will go a long way in making the world a much kinder, gentler and better place.
#3. Militaries, Weapon Production Abolished
When you have wicked men and wicked spirits leading enough of the world's nations, it does not just bring injustice and much personal suffering. National conflicts are unavoidable as well. The fourth seal or pale horseman describes the intensification of this problem through progress and technology.
We are told in the famous passage repeated twice in Scripture that all nations will abolish their armies and all weapons will be recycled.
Isaiah 2:4 / Mic 4:3 — He will settle disputes among the nations and provide arbitration for many peoples. They will turn their swords into plows and their spears into pruning knives. Nations will not take up the sword against other nations, and they will never again train for war.
Today there are only a few countries that have no standing army. The country I live in, Costa Rica, was the first to formally abolish the military. Imagine a world where every single country does this. All that money budgeted for defense could be reallocated to health, education, infrastructure and other things that raise that standard of living.
More importantly, the long elusive hope of world peace (that every Miss America pageant finalist has vowed to labor for) will finally be achieved!
#4. Life Spans of Over 100 Years - Disease Gone?
I remember when I first read the Bible at the age of 16. As a Catholic, I was unprepared for what confronted me right away in Genesis. I had no idea that the Bible matter-of-factly gives the ages of Adam and his offspring at over 900 years. It was quite a surprise and more than a little bit disturbing considering today's average life spans of around only 65 years. I had no way to explain it and I hoped no one ever challenged me on believing a book that taught such a ridiculous-sounding thing.
Sometime later, I found a book on creationism at the library. It offered evidence for how the antediluvian world was probably much different than today's earth. Through these differences it explained how the longer life span recorded in the Bible was possible. The answer was certainly satisfying in the short-term but in the lesson it provided was more profound.
I learned that our natural tendency to assume things have always been the same or will continue to be the same is a major pitfall. That view which evolution is based on, or uniformitarianism, runs contrary to the view of sudden and drastic changes on earth that the Bible expresses, or catastrophism. The flood was a catastrophe and the end times will bring even more catastrophes (just read Revelation 6 for those coming next at the 6th seal). After those catastrophes, the longer life spans will make a return:
Isaiah 65:20 — In her, a nursing infant will no longer live only a few days, or an old man not live out his days. Indeed, the youth will die at a hundred years, and the one who misses a hundred years will be cursed.
If one hundred years is considered a “youth”, then obviously old age must be more, perhaps several hundred years. Under God's government people will be generally righteous and loving instead of “desperately wicked” as Jeremiah describes them today. I think this was the chief reason God shortened the human life span.
By the way, who are these non-glorified/physical people in the Millennium and what happens to them when they die? First, these are the few "wicked" who survived Wormwood, the Great Tribulation, and God's wrath. Because they survive against all odds, the mark of the beast is taken off them. Because they missed the rapture and first resurrection, when they die they will come up in the second and/or third resurrection depending if they died wicked again or righteous. If they die righteous in the Millennium (most likely) they won't need to come up in the physical second resurrection. They will simply await the third where they become glorified just like the people in the rapture/first resurrection become.
Diet Change?
The mention of no more crib death and promise of the end of premature death tells us something else about another major change coming: great general health. If premature death is rare in all age groups then obviously sickness and disease must not be an issue in the Millennium. How is this possible given that even modern medical science has not cured even the common cold?
This prediction is one I have never had a problem believing or explaining. In my teens I came across books on the long-lived Hunzas of the Himalayas. They lived 120-140 years old with amazing vitality through raw and natural food eating and an isolated environment free of toxins and the bad effects of civilization. Adam and Eve were told that their food was herbs and it was only after the flood that meat-eating was introduced.
I can't help but wonder if the cleanup of the environment and people receiving education on healthy eating rather than being marketed foods based on taste and profit for food companies would not make all the difference?
#5. Carnivorous Animals' Diet and Nature Changed
This change is one of the most unexpected. We are used to a world filled with violence and cannot imagine it any other way. With the violence of men restrained and retrained by the new government, things in the world will be much safer. The world's "most dangerous predator" (man) will be tamed.
That would leave the world's second most dangerous predators: the carnivorous animals as the greatest threat to living out your nice enhanced long millennial life span.
Or will it?
You probably have heard when Jesus comes back that the “lion will lay down with the lamb”. You may have thought it was poetic. It is quite literal, although it does not say lion, it says wolf. And it also indicates the nature of the animals will change to also not be afraid of men like they are today (back to how they were in the Garden of Eden).
Isaiah 11:6-8 — The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the goat. The calf, the young lion, and the fatling will be together, and a child will lead them. 7 The cow and the bear will graze, their young ones will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 8 An infant will play beside the cobra’s pit, and a toddler will put his hand into a snake’s den.
Isaiah 65:25 — The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but the serpent’s food will be dust! They will not do what is evil or destroy on My entire holy mountain,” says the Lord.
Hosea 2:18 — On that day I will make a covenant for them with the wild animals, the birds of the sky, and the creatures that crawl on the ground. I will shatter bow, sword, and weapons of war in the land, and will enable the people to rest securely.
This means no more shark attacks or any other attack you're used to hearing about.
More amusingly it means your pet cats (and dogs) will cease to eat meat. You will be able to let them outside to graze on the lawn when they're hungry =). No more expensive, smelly cat or dog food. Can you say utopia?
By the way, you may be thinking you've already seen your cat or dog eat grass. Yes, they do this such as when they are sick but usually not very much and what little they eat they throw up. That's not quite the diet of grass that the Bible is predicting for current carnivores.
#6. One Language Again - Tower of Babel in Reverse?
Everyone can relate to the frustration of not being able to understand people around you because they are speaking a foreign language. Having lived overseas for many years, this is a regular experience for me. It leads to confusion, misunderstanding, alienation, conflict and even, at times, violence. Imagine how great a world it would be without this source of friction holding back progress and the ready sharing of information.
Well, you don't have to imagine only. You can read about it in the Bible.
It's easy to forget today, but mankind was not always divided by myriad languages. Genesis records how the whole world was of one language (Gen 11:1). But the unity and information-sharing benefits of one common language caused a problem. The progress of man was so great and rapid that God knew nothing would be impossible to man (throwing off God's plan) (Gen 11:6). The Tower of Babel ascending to heaven was evidence of this fact. So God went down to confuse the languages there, and the rest is, as they say, history.
But Bible prophecy may indicate a reversal of the Tower of Babel event:
Zephaniah 3:9 (HCSB) — For I will then restore pure speech to the peoples so that all of them may call on the name of Yehovah and serve Him with a single purpose.
Admittedly, it's not 100% clear from Zephaniah that a return to a common tongue is what is being predicted (for example, see Zech 8:23 that may indicate languages continue in the Millennium).
But it does makes a lot of sense that a wise and godly government would establish at least a universal language to make things easier. There is already something similar proposed today, an invented language designed for simplicity called Esperanto.
Under such a scheme, everyone would learn their native nation or culture's tongue and one other language, the universal tongue. In the spirit of a "restoration of all things," this will probably be Hebrew, the language everyone spoke before the Tower of Babel (as suggested by Ebonics and the fact that all the pre-flood names in the Bible are Hebrew).
#7. Israel and Judah Return, Become God's Model Nation Again
By the understanding of most Christians, the nation of Israel serves as a cautionary tale and not much more than that. They believe that the identifiable remnant of Israel today, the Jews, are cursed for both their rejection of God in the OT and of Jesus in the NT. (Just look at the Holocaust and anti-semitism.) Some even think that the church has replaced Israel, becoming a sort of spiritual Israel, much like Replacement Theology teaches.
Of course Replacement Theology took a major blow with the rebirth of Israel as a nation in 1948. Nevertheless, if you asked most Christians today, they would still say they believe that they have replaced Israel or that the tiny nation of Israel is never going to be great, let alone God's model nation again.
They therefore would be surprised to learn how much Bible prophecy there is about the return and restoration of both the nation of Israel and Judah at the start of the Millennium. Despite God's past anger with the two nations which caused him to send enemies to conquer and exile them, God promises to forgive and restore them in the Millennium. Here's just one of many OT prophecies talking about this major event:
Ezekiel 37:21-25 (HCSB) — 21 tell them: This is what the Lord GOD says: I am going to take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them into their own land. 24 My servant David will be king over them, and there will be one shepherd for all of them. They will follow My ordinances, and keep My statutes and obey them. 25 They will live in the land that I gave to My servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They will live in it forever with their children and grandchildren, and My servant David will be their prince forever.
There's no doubt about the verse's millennial context given the mention of King David being their prince forever (obviously resurrected at the start of the Millennium to a glorified body giving him the eternal life he needs to rule them forever).
Continuing in Ezekiel 37:
Ezekiel 37:26-28 (HCSB) — 26 I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant with them. I will establish and multiply them and will set My sanctuary among them forever. 27 My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be My people. 28 When My sanctuary is among them forever, the nations will know that I, the LORD, sanctify Israel.
Not only will Israel be brought back into their own land, they will be given a place of prominence among the nations. God's very dwelling place will be among them.
Another passage shows how God will use the people of Judah to teach the world his ways. Judah's territory, Judea, was where the temple of God was historically located.
Zechariah 8:23 (HCSB) — The LORD of Hosts says this: “In those days, 10 men from nations of every language will grab the robe of a Jewish man tightly, urging: Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”
If you want NT confirmation of the fact that Israel is not eternally cursed and replaced by the church check out these passages:
Romans 11:26 (HCSB) — And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written: The Liberator will come from Zion; He will turn away godlessness from Jacob.
Acts 1:6-7 (KJV) — 6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
#8. Torah, Temple and Animal Sacrifices Return (!)
After the last surprising change about the forgiveness and restoration of Israel, hopefully the Christian reader may now be ready to consider this most shocking prophesied change. The "done-away," "nailed to the cross," "curse of the law" Torah is coming back.
Jeremiah 31:31-33 (KJV) — 31 I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32 Not according to the covenant ... which ... they brake... 33 But ... I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
It's important to notice how this passage specifically states that this covenant is made with Israel and Judah, not the church. It also is clear that the law is again part of the covenant. However, unlike with the previous Old Covenant of Moses, this time the law will be written on people's hearts so that they can succeed in keeping it.
From that prophecy and others below, there's no mistaking that this is going to be similar to the law of Moses with the Temple, the Sabbath and feast days (like Feast of Tabernacles/Booths):
Isaiah 66:23 (HCSB) — All mankind will come to worship Me from one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another,” says the LORD.
Zechariah 14:16-19 (HCSB) — 16 Then all the survivors from the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, and to celebrate the Festival of Booths. 17 Should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, rain will not fall on them. 18 And if the people of Egypt will not go up and enter, then rain will not fall on them; this will be the plague the LORD inflicts on the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Booths. 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt and all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Booths.
But don't worry, it certainly won't be the same. For example, slavery and women being treated as property do not fit in our enlightened times like they did in ancient patriarchal cultures. (For those who doubt this and drone, "the Torah is eternal, it can't change!", I suggest a study on the changes in the Torah within just one generation between Exodus and Deuteronomy, the second giving of the Torah.) It will still be about love, justice and building a superior society.
Nevertheless, despite PETA and other groups educating the world on the idea of animal rights and cruelty, the animal sacrifices of Moses will return. Ezekiel 40-46 detail the coming millennial temple (sanctuary) and the many sacrifices to be done there.
This idea of animal sacrifices returning sounds dead wrong to Christians because they think Christ came to end and replace them with his own sacrifice. However, no verse explicitly says that. Instead, Hebrews tells us that the sacrifices never could take away sin (Heb 10:4), but merely served as reminders of sin (Heb 10:3), or object lessons, if you will. Briefly put, since there will still be fleshly forgetful temptable humans as subjects of the kingdom (who the glorified saints rule over), the ritualistic object lessons will continue to be helpful reminders of sin.
Christians also forget that the sacrifices were still going on when the believers in Acts went up to the temple daily at the time of prayer (Act 2:46). They did not go to protest the sacrifices =). Also Paul did an animal sacrifice (Act 21:26). They all knew animal sacrifices were not against Christ and his work, but honored it.
Animal "Violence" or "Suffering" in the Millennium?
I'm adding this section in response to a supporter's question:
I'm really heartbroken and extremely confused. I always looked forward to a time of ZERO violence ( wolf lying with the lamb, etc) and that was what I've been waiting and dreaming of my entire life. Now I've learned that animals will still suffer and it destroys my soul ( I'm crying as I type this).
She's of course referring to Isaiah's millennial prophecy that they will neither "hurt nor destroy" at that time (Isa 11:8-9). However, I think there's a couple misunderstandings in her question. Number one, Jewish animal sacrifice is done in a humane, painless way with a sharp knife, not using the efficient, but painful, stun bolt method of slaughter houses. Secondly, as such, I would not classify the throat incision to drain the animal's blood violence any more than I would classify a surgeon's knife operating on us for a medical intervention as violence. As explained above, God has commanded animal sacrifices for a good purpose and in the same way we opt to go "under the knife" for a good cause, usually to better our health. Neither cases are violent.
Nor is their sacrifice necessarily best classified as destruction. Many of the animal sacrifice are eaten by the priests as food. All the people eat the Passover lamb sacrifice which foreshadowed Jesus's death. It will continue to "backshadow" his death in the Millennium. The others that are consumed by fire on an altar are done in worship to God with great meaning. I wouldn't classify that as a destruction either like someone going out and hunting for fun and leaving the carcasses to rot.
#9. No More Religious Diversity (or Skeptics)

Like John Lennon, skeptics and atheists today would love to see a world free of religion. Surprisingly, their vision is not only inevitable, but, of all people, Jesus is the one who will make it happen. Unfortunately for them, along with religion, atheism and skepticism will also be forced out.
Let's cover that latter statement first, since it's pretty obvious. You've probably heard that Jesus will rule the earth with a "rod of iron" (Ps 2:9; Rev 2:27; 12:5; 19:15). We already saw an example of that above where the nations that do not obey the Torah command to go up to the Festival of Booths will be punished with drought (Zec 14:19). Pretty harsh correction, indeed, but it accomplishes two things. It not only corrects the bad behavior, but it also demonstrates the supernatural power behind the government and its laws.
That type of evidence of God and his power is why I say that in time the "religions" of atheism, agnosticism or skepticism will disappear. There will be no denying the supernatural or God anymore. The supernatural will come and bite you in the rear when you doubt it enough to disobey!
Jeremiah 31:34 (HCSB) — No longer will one teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all know Me, from the least to the greatest of them...
The Millennium's widely available, clear and complete teaching about God and his ways are going to make doubt about God's existence or his will look ridiculous (in ironically the same way most people view Creationists today). It's this very doubt today that makes room for not only skepticism, but all the false religions of the world.
Yet I wouldn't say that Jesus will outlaw Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Catholicism, and all the contradictory forms of Protestantism. He won't have to. I don't think anybody will want to follow these invented traditions of mere men anymore when the supernaturally powerful way of God himself is at last so accessible and plainly clear to the whole world.
The few who want to cling to the old religions will be on their own for as long as they can hold out. They will eventually be punished for their rebellion, after some gentle correction first:
Isaiah 30:21 (HCSB) — and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”
#10. 360-Day Year, Again
If you have ever read the flood account in Genesis 7 and 8, you may have noticed something interesting about the length of the flood. Most Christians know that it rained "40 days and 40 nights," but the flood did not last only 40 days. Genesis twice records how the waters surged on the earth for 150 days, or nearly half of a year (Gen 7:24; 8:3).
But how long was a year then? Maybe not what we naturally assume...
Curiously, Genesis takes time to note the exact dates that those 150 days begin and end on: 02-17 (Gen 7:11) and 07-17 (Gen 8:4). This means that the flood of 150 days was exactly five months in length. 150 days divided by five months comes to an even 30 days per month. On the modern Jewish calendar (based on the Bible) this is impossible. Months alternate between lengths of 29 and 30 days. There are never five 30 day months in a row today. But in the Bible there were; pointing to every month being 30 days long.
Of course, this also suggests a 360 day year (12 months x 30 days = 360), rather than a 365¼ day year like we have today. If you think Genesis is mistaken, consider that over fourteen ancient calendars also use 360 day years. Also consider that the circle has 360 degrees in most cultures, as it is to this day. Were all the ancient astronomers and mathematicians so inept at counting? Did they all come to the exact same mistaken count, too?
Now skip from the first book of Bible to the last and look at the numbers there. Revelation and Daniel record in six places the length of the Great Tribulation. Surprisingly, these passages together attest that the Great Tribulation will be exactly 1260 days or 42 months or 3½ years. When you do the math on that, we again end up with a 360 day year with a 30 day month. Again, not matching today's solar and lunar cycles, respectively.
Technically this change comes before Jesus arrives to usher in the Millennium. This means that by the time the Millennium is ready to begin, the clock of the earth will be reset or restored back to what it was in the beginning. Another surprising change in store for the Millennium.

Will there be demonic influence on earth during the millennium?

Hi Tim,
Would you have the time to reflect on what “form” the earth take during the millennium. That is, we will have the destruction from the Isaiah 17 ME war, Wormwood, and the accumulated toxic residues from several centuries of careless pillaging of earth’s resources. Do you think this will all be reversed in an instant or will this be the work to be done by the millennium saints?
It seems beyond any doubt that the world will be a whole lot different 100 years from now – very much improved from its current state – as is obvious from the scriptures you’ve listed above, but I’m having trouble pinning down a timeframe for this to happen.
I really like my part of the world and was wondering if, in the millennium world, we can/will return to the geographical place we currently call home and build it up to its former glory?
The natural tendency for the earth and its systems is to regrow and restore, There are serious imbalances currently in the system introduced by the myriad human endeavours working against all natural systems – mining, deforestation, toxic pollution, nuclear *anything*, city living, concrete jungles, and so on. All of these imbalances are overwhelming the earth’s ability to restore balance.
With all these imbalances coming to an end during this decade, and the the love of God in the heart of the rulers in the coming millennium, I can see there will be a real possibility of restoration through “human” endeavour. But do you think that this is the will of God?
If you have the time, I’m curious to hear your viewpoint.

Joel, I love to reflect on how many ways things in the Millennium will be different than we are accustomed to today but I still do not have a lot of certainties about it. If God gives me more dreams, I hope some will show me the Millennium so some of the exciting differences are known.
I believe that there are some supernatural fixes God must do but beyond that he seems to be leaving the mop-up and restoration to us. A few verses come to mind like the one about burning the weapons of war for 7 years and also the one about beating swords into pruning hooks and plowshares. The “restoration of all things” seems to be a progressive thing (Isa 9:7).
If you have not read it, this 1979 book has the best collection of thoughts on the Millennium I’ve seen so far.
Reply Thank you Tim. Yes, Isaiah 2:4 does tend to indicate that some time passes as the impact of His rule takes hold across the earth. We see from this verse He is settling disputes between nations and providing arbitration for many peoples. This verse tends to suggest there will still exist the concept of nations and peoples, although perhaps not the same nations as we now know, nor the same borders, but it is clear there will be boundaries of some description still causing some level of dispute. I also take comfort in knowing that this implies we will likely disperse from the place of protection and help usher in the new way of life. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll find our way back to our homelands :).
HWA’s book is quite the eye-opener and not short of bold predictions, some of which are a little off, but all the same, hitting close to the mark in many ways. Still reading, about half way through. Thanks for the tip.

Tim – I am a Jewish believer and I teach a series on the Feasts of Israel. I do not believe that there will be animal sacrifices in the millennium. They were fulfilled historically in Israel, in what Jesus did when he walked to the earth, and in the church as a spiritual experience. The feasts will be restored to help believers in the 1000 year period understand salvation, but it would be pointless, cruel, and inconsistent with other prophecies about that time period to bring back literal animal sacrifices.
Reply John, it’s even more inconsistent with other prophecies to turn a plain literal prophecy of Millennial Temple sacrifices in Ezekiel 40-46 into a non-literal allegory.

Monday the 23rd seemed to be the apex of a series of spiritual awkwardness. I was in the grocery store and some words escaped that just sent me to tears. I couldn’t believe what I had spoken. And all through the weekend I had been up and down wrestling with what I now call, I ate a bad thought.
My belly would go back and forth between feeling sick and full with joy. Back and forth between this repentance and healing. I could feel it in my belly in such extreme from one day to the next.
Then Monday came. I sat in the library in prayer and repentance. I went to go pick up my daughter, she’s taking a summer class. In consideration of my natural tendency to respond in reflex to anyone who endangers my child, my response to the near death driving experience we encountered can only be described as supernatural. God had my heart – and my life.
If I had not been in repentance, I would have been driving faster. If I had been driving faster, I don’t think I would be alive right now. Maybe in the hospital. My daughter would definitely not be ok.
But what really strikes me is the prayer and rebuke I gave the perpetrator. My daughter and I were accosted by a reckless driver who sped through a stop sign – this was no stop and roll.
I followed him down the lane, honking nonstop — I wasn’t at all angry. I was completely calm. When I finally caught up to him, the thought crossed my mind, ‘Call the police.’ I felt a strong, NO, response from my gut.
Instead, I spoke to the young man. The cars behind me waited patiently!!!??? Sure, the light was red, but we weren’t all the way to the light yet. Two cars in the middle of the road having a convo with traffic – not heavy, but still – patiently waiting behind.
Well, I explained to the young man what he had done – no anger, here. He apologized. I calmly explained apology was not enough and insisted that he praise God with me that we were all still alive.
My daughter did not share my calm response. But I calmed her, too.
The important thing here now was to pray over the young man – he had not praised God and seemed to miss the point that we were all alive right now, obviously to praise God, together.
I had told him to say, Hallelujah, and he didn’t.
Since he missed the point, I prayed over the young man – with a line of traffic waiting in patience behind as we were not rolled all the way to the front of the stoplight ahead.
Then we switched lanes – in my chase (which was calm without speed or anger) he had ended up in my lane and I was in his. So we switched lanes, and one car honked as the light turned green and we all went on our way in peace.
It is natural for me to be livid with a biker who cuts me off. A boy in a truck goes high speed through a stop sign threatening all our lives, including my baby – and he gets a blessing!?
Well, God is good.
I felt like he was saying loud and clear, I forgive you for the awful thing you said to me in the grocery store. Even now, my breath catches and I cry that he would so blatantly forgive me and bless others in the process.

Tim, I’d like to share a few things about ritual slaughter that may comfort some readers out there. True, authentic shechita slaughter, as it was performed in ancient times, is not identical to contemporary Jewish halacha. Today, for meat to be “certified kosher” includes a direct frontal incision that severs the trachea, which, unfortunately, does lead to the animal suffering. However, true shechita slaughter is a surgical incision on the SIDE of the neck severing ONLY the carotid arteries. The vascular anatomy in the necks of “clean” animals (which is different from the anatomy of “unclean” animals) permits a drop in cerebral perfusion pressure, so that the only sensation an animal has, if done correctly, is getting sleepy, instead of wallowing around for a couple of minutes with a slit throat. Furthermore, not only does the animal simply go to sleep, but the body, compensating for the hemorrhage, comprehensively drains the blood in a FAR MORE efficient manner. This seems to be the rationale for the Israelites being forbidden to eat something that died of natural causes. This also seems to be what the apostolic decree in Acts 15 discusses, typically translated as “things strangled,” or some variation thereof. I hope this helps. It stands to reason that Yehovah would only sanction a method of killing the animals that was, truly, humane.

When I went to read the explanation of the Feast of Booths in Leviticus 23, it doesn’t mention animal or another sacrifice for that feast day. It does mention a food offering which could be something other than animal like grain/fruit.
It would make sense to celebrate that feast day and only that one during the 1000 yrs since the others would be fulfilled.
Reply Elizabeth, all the sacrifices during the Millennium are detailed in Eze 40-46. Tabernacles is covered in Ezekiel 45:25 =).
Reply If there are to be sacrifices then that’s up to the Lord. I for one eat meat and know countless animals are slaughtered each day for that. So a sacrifice of an animal is not offensive. If am more offended by trophy killing and animal abuse.
If it’s to show those during the millennium that they are still sinning so be it. I just mentioned the above to show that there are other offerings and burnt offerings other than animals.

I was reading Zechariah 13 and I came upon this verse that I think is about the Mellinium and that I found to be pretty suprising regarding one who gives false prophesy and the punishment at the hand of his/her own mother father. Can you please confirm if it is about the Melinium or not? Zechariah 13:2-4 –
2 “On that day, I will banish the names of the idols from the land, and they will be remembered no more,” declares the Lord Almighty. “I will remove both the prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land. 3 And if anyone still prophesies, their father and mother, to whom they were born, will say to them, ‘You must die, because you have told lies in the Lord’s name.’ Then their own parents will stab the one who prophesies.
4 “On that day every prophet will be ashamed of their prophetic vision. They will not put on a prophet’s garment of hair in order to deceive. 5 Each will say, ‘I am not a prophet. I am a farmer; the land has been my livelihood since my youth.
Matt, yes, Zech 13:2-4 is a millennial prophecy when deception and falsehood will not be tolerated or fail to be discerned like they are today that even parents will put to death false prophet children. Pretty impressive time.

I see i didn’t factor in the people going to the place because of their friends or family. I thought that the only reason why they would go there is because God told them so, not because of family or friends. Thank you for the clarification.
Reply Hi Tim, first of all i want to thank you for offering us free subscription but what i would like to know is who exactly are the ones that will be mortal at the millenium? Because if i understand well there are 4 groups. Those who goes to the place of safety, the 144000 sealed, those who accept the mark and the martyred. I remember reading in a previous article that those who refuse the mark gets tortured and then killed. So i would like to know where the mortals coming from?
Reply Jethro, the people who the glorified saints rule in the Millennium come from two surprising places. #1: Those in the place of safety don’t all get raptured. There are children who are not mature enough to qualify to receive eternal life yet and so they go on in their physical bodies after the rapture, as princes and princesses under their glorified royal parents. #2: Those who took the mark will mostly die in God’s wrath but again, not all; one third survive (Zech 13:8). Then “the survivors from all nations” come up and worship King Yehovah God in Jerusalem(Zech 14:16) after Satan, the False Prophet, the Beast and his mark are removed from the world.

Reply Jethro, no you don’t need to have salvation faith to survive the end times. There is faith (or obedience if you’re a minor) to go to a place because “supposedly” (in your mind) God says so and your parents or friends and family are going. Then there is salvation faith in God that he is good and rewards those who seek him (Heb 11:6) coming from a mature person of the age of accountability.

Hello Tim, I also think we should keep in mind the huge change to the earths surface after the massive earth quake that is going to take place. Imagine islands and mountains disappearing. I personally believe the land and water structures as we know it today will be completely different, the continents will change. Also the weather conditions will be different, maybe more placid, mild and stable compared to today. I am not sure also if the earth’s tilt could be affected?
So yes, a lot of changes will be in store for everybody but obviously for the good of humanity.

This article really should excite all the believers in Jesus Christ because our future will be pure Joy in serving the Great I Am. I have lived with much physical pain for the last 17 years, and it is wearing me down as I grow older. For years I have watched people wrestling with scriptures and coming up with all kinds of scenarios and reasons Jesus would come in 1988, 1996, 2000, 2016…etc. The problem is they lost the pattern or don’t know it? Can anyone predict the day or hour? No. Even the year? A guess with no one knowing if man’s time is off a year or three? But we are left patterns and signs. The main first sign given 7 days. God works 6 days (or 6,000 yrs) and rest on the seventh.) when did the last 2,000 of the 6,000 years start according to GODS time clock? He must have left us a way to know? When did Jesus come the first time according to GODS calander? When he was born 3-2BC? If so HE is 20 years late and we are already in the Sabbath? No that is impossible GOD does not break HIS own patterns. So when does GOD say was the sign of Christ first coming and what would it be. Zec 9:9 fortells it and Jesus forfulls it in Matt 21. When was this? Probably most likely 29-30AD. That would make the end of the 6,000 year period 2029-30.. Give or take a year or two….The 7 years of tribulation would start 2023-24AD. It would end with Jesus coming at the last trump and fufilling the last three feast days (Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Tabernacles all in time and order as GOD laid the out and have been kept to the day since) that represent the time of His second coming. Just like the first 4 did His first coming to the day and hour. One on a donkey into Jerusalem to be the Savior crucified and the second on a horse 2,000 years later as King, Judge and Ruler…(Matt 21:1-9)

Playing devil’s advocate it sounds like glorified human beings will no longer have the ability to sin (and perhaps even the choice to sin)–given the Bible’s statement on the law being ‘written on their hearts’, etc….It certainly has to make you wonder what kind of existence you will have when you no longer have the ability to choose/or wish to choose otherwise . If human happiness/peace requires a literal enslavement of the mind (ie: by removing choice) one can only question the moral quality of that life–as there is no hint at all that glorified human beings have the ability (much like Satan and the fallen angels) to decide at a later point in time (assuming time exists after the new heaven/earth) that they’re tired of whatever existence they now find themselves in—Perhaps bliss/peace requires that choice be removed from anyone who isn’t God but if that’s true, and choice is removed, what sort of existence will that be if perfection requires that human become like controlled robots. I suppose at least there will be peace!

I’m been thinking about what you’re saying and here is what I think is the solution.
After people see for themselves that Yehovah’s way of running things is superior to us finite human beings why would humans want that to change?
Somehow I doubt people’s free will is going to be removed though I don’t claim to know everything about what life in the Millennium and New Jerusalem.

Wonderful teaching! I have been teaching on the coming Kingdom in our Bible study class for some days now. I strongly believe that the language spoken before the confusion at the tower of Babel was the Hebrew language. When you consider the fact that all the names mentioned before Babel seem to be Hebrew, you can think of any other Language. Also, Yahweh, Michael, Gabriel etc are all Hebrew. I can’t but agree with you concerning Zephaniah 3: 9. However, I would like to know if you have additional material on this.

I think the rule of Jesus on David’s throne is an exciting thing. It is God’s dealing with Israel and fulfilling all the prophesies. I have a hope to see it either here on earth or with Christ coming from Heaven. He will rule with an “iron rod” as most the nations will even be intolerant of a perfect ruler and will need to be somewhat coerced. What astonishes me is after 1000 years of rule by Jesus Christ Satan is released and leads the world to attack man’s only hope. The number is too many to even count. “As the sand of the sea” It shows that in the flesh we are so sinful that even the great blessings of long life, good health and food and eradication of disease, man is still inherently evil. It can’t be corrected by observing the Law or dietary restrictions or anything else. Goes right back to simply accepting the Lord Jesus and desiring to live as a part of His rule and not just under it. Even though that rule will be the golden age of golden ages it ends in fiery destruction.

Thanks for the clarifying point on fallen angels and demons… One question – I am thinking of those who make it to the safe haven during the tribulation and are alive when Jesus begins the millennial reign… Those will be the ones still with human, not glorified bodies…. Am I correct? Or will they get glorified bodies during that “transition”… Just curious…

Damon, everyone in the safe haven and everywhere else on earth is not glorified yet until the rapture/first resurrection after the tribulation (Mt 24:29-31).
Reply All believers dead and alive will be glorified at Jesus return. From the time of Adam until now. Jesus will destroy the wicked at His return at the battle of Armageddon…my question and I do not pretend to have the full answer. Who will be those besides those left of Israel who will believe when they look upon him? The bible makes clear there are people of many nations on earth during the 1000 year Sabbath? Who are they ? Does that mean none believers would be given a second chance? If they become believers during tribulation they would either be killed, not take the mark and raptures with the rest of us? Who are these thousands if not millions of people still in human form? The second resurrection at the end of the 1000 years is called the 2nd resurrection unto death. How are these people who die during the 1000 yrs receive glorified bodies who were not part of the rebellion at the end?
Reply Ken, that is a great question that needs to be answered to test if our eschatology is right. First, note that Jesus does not destroy everyone “at the brightness of his coming.” He destroys the Antichrist (2Th 2:8). The sword that comes from his mouth destroys only those who came to battle him at Armageddon (Rev 19:15). The rest of the people who took the mark but did not come to battle him and survived God’s wrath that kills two thirds (Zec 13:8), will have received their punishment and be released from the mark of the beast when Jesus comes and cleans up the earth of Satan, fallen angels, nephilim and demons.
Therefore the people who we rule that you are asking about are those survivors who took the mark.

Marantha, the Greek for Rev 22:15 is probably not reflecting the original Hebrew clearly (that the church fathers attest Revelation was received in) but the previous verse removes all doubt those dogs outside are D-E-A-D dead: Rev 22:14 – “Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and [ =
] may enter the city by the gates.” If you’re not in the city you don’t have eternal life from the tree of life and are dead (or will die soon).
Tim, why do you say no slavery? The Torah is the Torah and it doesn’t fit into what us ‘modern’ people say it should ,as its a command for all time.
Nowhere are we commanded to stop keeping the Torah.
Anybody wanting to join the covenant got circumsized etc and continued on in the faith progressively…We keep the Torah to show our faith, notto be saved by our works.
Reply Mike, I won’t debate you on whether the Torah will be different in the New Covenant (Jer 31:31) of the 21st century with how much of a dyed-in-the-wool “Torah keeper” you obviously are. It’s just a shame you never noticed how the Torah changed just in the short span of one generation from Exodus to Deuteronomy, the second giving of the law. Many changes like where sacrifices are done, etc. I can only imagine the changes to be introduced 80+ generations later?

Hi, regarding the 360 day year. We have the 365.25 day year, which is based on how long the earth takes to go round the sun. If we change this to 360 days then each year the earth would travel 5.25 days shorter and would not complete a full circle. After 10 years this would result in the earth traveling 52.5 days less, which is roughly seven and a half weeks. So the summer salstice, which is June 21st here in Engĺand, would be about the 14th of August. It means that the dates of the seasons would change every year. Is this right or am I missing something.
Reply David, if we arbitrarily switched to a 360 day calendar, then what you described would happen. Instead, what’s going to happen is the year is literally going to shorten to 360 days as Wormwood pulls on Earth, back to what it was originally as Genesis describes. The calendar will be changed to reflect this. For how the original 360 day year was changed, read this excellent book Mars Wars.

Where in the Bible does it say that Jesus is coming back? Jesus, in Revelations, says Christ is coming. Christ came the last time as Jesus. Just like Elijah/Elias came as John the baptist. One “LIKE” The Son of Man” (Son of Man is how Jesus always referred to himself) is seen coming in the clouds.

Really enjoyed this article, it brought back much of what I was taught in Sunday school more than 50 years ago. I am intrigued by your comment that in the millennium we will all live by the Torah. Does this mean we should start to learn this now?
You made a reference to other religions, Can I say that Buddhism is not a religion but a way of life.
I could be wrong or confused due to my age, but I believe Jesus did travel and visit the Buddhist to teach them about our Lord.
I was visiting a temple in Katmandu and found a picture of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Reply John, I would never say “you should.” Torah-study gives you insight into the mind and ways of God if you choose to. Bear in mind that the Torah of the Millennium will be different, updated for the 21st century standards (no slavery, etc.).
Buddhism is classified as a religion by most although it has aspects that don’t fit. Regardless, my point is people will be following Jesus’ way of life, not Buddha’s in the Millennium.

I’ve got a question about demons. I thought that they were the OTHER fallen angels that fell with Lucifer? What scripture says that they are different? Satan can’t create, so where did they come from?

Concerning demons, I also had a hard time deciphering them from the fallen angels, as I was under the impression that the nephilim were the product of the fallen angels, and were the same as demons.

Tim, Thoroughly enjoyed your article on the Nephilim. Fortunately over the past week I have read the book of Enoch twice. One was a “restored names” version. Enoch is very descriptive of the watchers and how they will plague mankind after their death and the fiery judgment ahead for them. Jude quoting Enoch was reason enough for me to want to give it a read. What did you think of Lamech’s description of his son Noah when he was born? “His eyes are like the rays of the sun, and his face aglow” and “when he opened his eyes the whole house lighted up.” I look forward to reading more of your articles.

If the animals are at peace with each other why does Ezekiel 44:31 say : The priest shall not eat of anything, whether bird or beast, that has died of it self or is torn by wild animals? Just curious, I can’t find anyone to answer this question and was hoping you could.

Interesting verse in the details about the future 4th/Millennial Temple. Of course, this verse is just a repetition of a command of the Torah known at the time regarding priestly food (Lev 22:8).
There are other passages like this you can find that seem to contradict that these are future fulfillments. Another example is Ezekiel 39 about the apocalypse war mentioning swords and horsemen (in our time now for Armageddon).
In these cases, although the writer used his best understanding at the time, it helps to remember that all it takes is one instance of what is written for the passage to be true, even if it’s not the main case. E.g. there only needs to be a couple swords and horsemen or one deranged animal that might hurt another one. In the end I think we can’t expect the writers of certain prophecies to be aware of or comment on every aspect of the time their writing. Ezekiel did not understand cars or that the animals would (normally) not ever hurt each other in the time of the priests of the Millennial Temple. Nevertheless, what they write does not contradict the correctly understood future timeframe of these prophecies.

Hi Tim,
I am 68 yrs old now Tim but I was a missionary to the Jewish people way back in the early 70’s. I went to a Bible Institute now known as Cornerstone University. I have learned so much from my work among the Jewish people and have seen the rise of Messianic Judaism. Today Jews and Gentiles are one in Messiah and co-equals in grace but our roots are in their tree. A great transition and reset is coming once the true Body of believers are snatched up and caught away to be with the Lord Jesus. Then the great call will come for the Jews to become the Covenant people they have always been to be called back as the wayward wife of Yahweh. They will be His witnesses all over the world where He has scattered them. Most Christian are totally confused but the types and shadow are all over the Old Testament, in the book of Ruth, the Story of Joseph and his Gentile bride that is beside him when he reintroduces himself to his brothers and cry’s. That reunion leads to the Holy 1000 year Sabbath Day of Rest. Tim you have it right and you are on the right tract…I look forward to hearing the things you have discovered too!

That would mean no babies or even young children , mental retarded on the face of the earth in gone in one day? 2. If there is only one resurrection unto life, the First resurrection, how will those at the end of the tribulation be resurrected? There can only be one FIRST? If the First resurrection occurs at the Last Trump can there be any “last trump” before it or after it? There is only one First resurrection and only one last trump both are the same event happening at the same time at the return of Jesus, Yeshua the Messiah at the end of Great Tribulation before the “wrath of the Lamb”. The only wrath that is from GOD mentioned in scriptures. No mention of a “secret coming” except by Jesus in Matt 24 warning not to believe it but goes to great length explaining His return and timing.
Reply Rev. 20:4,5 sealed the deal for me on this subject. The first resurrection coming at the end of the tribulation being the resurrection of the righteous. Acts 24;15 and John 5:29 speak of two resurrections; of the just and unjust. The pre-trib rapture doctrine did not exist until 1830 from John Nelson Darby. There doesn’t appear to be any record of it before then.
